South London Gallery

Rivane Neuenschwander Suspension Point

Internationally acclaimed artist Rivane Neuenschwander transformed the main exhibition hall of the South London Gallery with a visually elaborate but simple wooden structure.

The structure, which supported a new floor punctuated by a staircase, was monumental in scale, yet minimalist in its elements. We were commissioned to produce and install this structure. Minimal pieces are often a greater challenge than something visually complex as there’s nothing to distract attention from any imperfection.

Our site survey drawings enabled us to manufacture components off site, ensuring not only the accuracy and precision fit of each individual piece but also reducing associated ‘installation nuisance’. Dust, noise, disruption and other inconvenience was minimised; this is always welcomed by custodians of pristine (and listed) gallery spaces.

In addition to manufacturing the structure all fireproofing and structural compliancy issues as stipulated by the gallery were fulfilled.
